Current studies
New routes of vaccine delivery
A trial comparing antibody responses to MMR vaccine delivered by the respiratory (aerosol) route or by intradermal injection with standard intramuscular injection. This study is funded by Health Research Council (HRC) and has recruited students in Dunedin and Auckland who have low measles antibody. Sumanta Saha has a PhD scholarship from Te Niwha Infectious Diseases Platform.
Immunological responses to measles vaccine delivered by aerosol route
Melanie Millier has a PhD fellowship funded by Health Research Council (HRC) and a grant from the Otago Medical Research Foundation to study cellular immune responses in aerosol recipients. Professor James Ussher (Microbiology and Immunology) and Professor McIntyre are supervisors.
Hapu Mama
This is a Health Research Council (HRC) funded study led by Associate Professor Esther Willing (Kohatu) looking at measures to improve acceptability and uptake of maternal vaccination especially among Māori women. Professor Peter McIntyre is an investigator in the study.
Acceptability of intradermal patches for use by midwives in vaccination
