2026 PBRF round cancelled

The government has announced that the next PBRF Quality evaluation exercise, which was to be held in 2026, will not go ahead. Further information can be found at the Tertiary Education Commission's website.

However, the PBRF and Publications Office's work collating and verifying Otago's research output data remains unchanged as this data feeds into several other areas of University reporting, including feeding through onto staff webpages. All staff should continue to check their research outputs/publications listings in MyResearch as usual and notify the office of any outputs not listed on their profile by forwarding details and evidence to

Next PBRF Round Delayed
The next PBRF Quality Evaluation exercise was due to be held in 2024, however, due to the impacts of Covid-19, the PBRF assessment has been delayed two years and will now be held in 2026 with the assessment period covering eight years (1st January 2018 – 31st December 2025).

PBRF 2026 Co-Chair and Panel Member Nominations
In preparation for the 2026 PBRF Quality Evaluation exercise, the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) are currently calling for Panel Co-Chairs nominations and the first cohort of Panel Member nominations. These are important roles that are crucial to the PBRF assessment process.

The Panel Co-Chairs and Panel Members in this first nomination stage will be responsible for developing the Panel Specific Guidelines for the 2026 PBRF exercise, which will detail the specifications for staff submitting to the each of the 14 panels. The Co-Chairs and Panel Members will also be a core part of the final Panel makeup for assessing Evidence Portfolios in the 2026 PBRF round.

All nominations for these roles must come through the PBRF and Publications Office for collation and submission and must be submitted to the office by 5pm Tuesday 15 November 2022.
