For Magdeline, adding a minor in Entrepreneurship to her Computer Science major allowed her to build a unique skill set.

Even if you don't plan to start your own business, I believe studying Entrepreneurship is beneficial because entrepreneurs are highly valuable and sought after by companies. Studying Entrepreneurship provided some refreshment and creativity to my otherwise technical Computer Science papers – we learned about a whole range of areas from marketing and management to business statistics.

Gain real-world experience

“The highlight of my studies was winning the 2019 NZ Red Bull Basement University in my second year. It's Red Bull's flagship tech and entrepreneurship programme for university students. I won it with my circular economy startup idea, and this gave me the opportunity to present at the global finals in Toronto, Canada. It was such an incredible experience, and I felt very honoured to have been able to represent New Zealand.”

Supportive lecturers

“The lecturers are passionate and are always ready to help out. I often emailed and visited them during office hours so that really helped with getting to know the lecturers on a personal level and also clarifying concepts I didn't understand in lectures.”
