Accommodation options for postgraduate and mature students at Otago include residential colleges and shared housing (flatting).

Residential colleges

Postgraduate students are welcome in some of Otago's residential colleges. All residential colleges are fully catered, and provide fully-furnished and equipped accommodation. They have a strong community ethos, with communal dining and a calendar of cultural, sporting and social activities.

There are four residential colleges that accept applications from postgraduate students:

University Flats (UniFlats)

UniFlats offers self-catered, independent living with other postgraduate students in flats/houses, ranging from two to six bedrooms. The accommodation is furnished, and tenants are responsible for electricity and internet accounts.

There are a number of one-, two- and three-bedroom flats available for individual students and students with partners/children.

UniFlats tenancy agreements are fixed-term, either for one semester or for the full academic year (48 weeks).

Homestay

The Homestay programme matches students with a local Dunedin host family. Students have their own bedroom in the host family's home and are provided with meals.

Homestay information is on the Pathway and English Language Centre website, but the programme is open to all students.

Family accommodation

University Flats (UniFlats) has a limited number of flats available for small families and couples.

Students with families may prefer to find private rental accommodation near shops or schools. The Student Accommodation Centre can offer advice on finding rental accommodation.

Staff accommodation

Affordable private rental accommodation is available in the suburbs, often only a short (15 minute) drive or bus trip from the main campus. We recommend arranging temporary accommodation for when you arrive, and then inspect rental properties before signing a tenancy agreement.
