Paying your fees as a domestic student
The University issues your invoice through the 'My Account' page in eVision where you can find all the information you need to organise payment. Once your fees are paid and you have completed course enrolment, you are officially enrolled.
- Fees should be paid or student loan arrangements finalised before you start your studies.
- Full payment is required; installments are not allowed.
- Tuition fee invoices are displayed in a student's eVision portal, and the University of Otago does not send printed invoices to students.

If a student adds one or more papers during the year, the additional tuition fee for those papers is payable within 20 days from the registration of the change of course.

You can make payment by searching University of Otago – Tuition under registered payees in your banking application, which will ensure payment is made to the correct bank account. Please ensure to include your name and student ID as the payment reference.

The Ministry of Social Development manages the Student Loan Scheme.

It’s important to apply for your Student Loan as early as possible. After your loan is pre-approved, StudyLink will contact the University to request your enrolment and tuition fee details, provided you selected the 'Pay fees' option in your application. These details can be confirmed to StudyLink once you have completed Course Declaration.
StudyLink will pay the tuition fees from your approved Student Loan directly to the University. You must keep track of your application through your MyStudyLink account, and ensure that your Student Loan is finalised before you start your studies. Please note that the Student loan does not cover administration fees such as admission fees, late fees and Final Exam Only fees. You will need to arrange payment for any of these fees incurred yourself.
Payment options at the Dunedin Campus include EFTPOS and credit card transactions, available at the AskOtago counter located in the Link, near the Central Library. Please be aware that credit card payments will incur a non-refundable 2% surcharge.
Each bank has a set daily transaction limit for the amount that can be processed by EFTPOS per day. To learn more these limits, please contact your bank directly. Additionally, p lease note that the University of Otago can no longer accept cash payment for tuition fees on campus. If you wish to pay your tuition fees in cash you will need to visit an ANZ branch to deposit your payment into the University of Otago tuition bank account.
If your tuition fees are covered by a University of Otago scholarship and it has not been applied to your fee account, the internal processing has yet to be completed.
If you receive a tuition fee account and your invoice should be directed to a third party, such as your employer, please contact the Student Finance Office for assistance.

Paying your fees as an international student
New international students
Your estimated tuition fee is stated on your Offer of Place.
You can pay this estimated fee directly using the payment methods below.
Important notes:
- You do not need to wait for an invoice to make your payment. The University of Otago does not send printed invoices to students.
- You do not need to wait for your course paper selection to be approved before paying.
- A screenshot of the payment is not accepted for the visa application.
- You will need to request a tuition fee receipt for your student visa application.

Returning/continuing international students
Your estimated tuition fee is stated on your Confirmation of Enrolment letter provided by Student Visa Services.
Email student.visa@otago.ac.nz with your student ID number to request this letter.
Your invoice will be issued via the 'My Account' page in eVision, with payment options.
Fees should be paid or student loan arrangements finalised before you start your studies.
Full payment is required; installments are not allowed.

Tuition fees due dates
International students are strongly advised to pay their estimated tuition fee as soon as possible after receiving the unconditional Offer of Place.
Once you have made your payment, you may request an official tuition fee receipt from our Student Finance team. This official tuition fee receipt is required for your visa application.
Important notes:
- It is important to allow sufficient time for your visa application to be processed before your studies begin, so we recommend paying your tuition fee as soon as possible and make a complete application for your visa.
- Otago's standard fee payment deadlines listed below are very close to the start of studies. This is not enough time for new international students to be able to apply for a visa.

Please be aware that Convera does not process payments to, from, or involving residents of Iran, North Korea, Cuba, or the Crimea, Luhansk, and Donetsk provinces of Ukraine. More information about sanctions and any potential restrictions on payments is available on the Convera website. Additionally, due to international banking regulations, transactions in some currencies may not be available. If your currency is not listed as an option for telegraphic transfer, please select an alternative currency, such as USD.

Requesting a tuition fee receipt for your student visa
Tuition fee receipts are not generated automatically. To obtain a tuition fee receipt for your student visa application, please complete and submit the following form:
International tuition fee receipt form
- Tuition fee receipts can only be issued once your payment has been received in the University of Otago's bank account. It can take several days for funds to clear from the time that you make payment.
- We recommend that new students make their payment as soon as possible to allow sufficient time to receive an official receipt from the Student Finance office and allow time for the student visa application.
