The Theology programme offers Biblical Hebrew and New Testament Greek both on-campus and via videoconferencing. Distance students will be able to join the class live via videoconferencing or they will be able to watch or listen to podcasts at a later time.

Although we'd love you to do a whole degree, you can do one or more Biblical languages papers with us without doing a whole degree.

If you're planning to take a few papers with us, then why not enrol in the Diploma in Theology (DipTheol)? This is the equivalent of one year of full-time study, and requires you to complete seven papers, up to three of which can be at 200-level.

Diploma in Theology (DipTheol)

You can enrol in individual papers under the category of a Certificate of Proficiency. This is a way for you to do individual papers without having to undertake a whole qualification. In some cases, it may be possible to take Otago papers under the Certificate of Proficiency and credit them toward a qualification with another university or Theology provider (please contact us if you would like to discuss this further).

100-level papers

  • HEBR 131 Introductory Hebrew Language 1
  • HEBR 132 Introductory Hebrew Language and Exegesis 2
  • BIBS 131 Introductory Greek New Testament Language 1
  • BIBS 132 Introductory Greek New Testament Language and Exegesis 2

There is a comprehensive textbook for both Biblical Hebrew and Biblical Greek.

200-, 300- and 400- level papers

Assessment in all papers will be the same for both campus and distance students.
