Pest control is a big problem in New Zealand and the Zoology Department conducts research into some of New Zealand's introduced pest species such as rabbits, possums, rats and feral cats. Marine mammal biology is also a strong research theme. Of particular interest are Hector's dolphins, sea lions, and leopard seals.
