Study Classics at Otago

Classical wisdom

Our teaching and research covers a wide range of topics, from art and archaeology, to Greek and Latin studies, to mythology and society.

We offer papers in Classical Studies, as well as language papers in Greek and Latin. We also offer a range of more specialised papers in such areas as Greek and Roman society, Cicero, Alexander the Great, ancient philosophy and Classical art and archaeology, myth, and literature.

Greek and Latin

The Greek and Latin languages are taught from beginners' level on a reading-based approach, leading to the reading of texts from major authors at higher levels.
