Our teaching and research covers a wide range of topics, from art and archaeology, to Greek and Latin studies, to mythology and society.
We offer papers in Classical Studies, as well as language papers in Greek and Latin. We also offer a range of more specialised papers in such areas as Roman society, Cicero, Alexander the Great, Greek tragedy, and Graeco-Roman art, myth, and literature.
Greek and Latin
The Greek and Latin languages are taught from beginners' level on a reading-based approach, leading to the reading of texts from major authors at higher levels.
The Department has a strong research culture, with particular expertise in Alexander the Great, Cicero, Greek religion, Roman Spain and Statius.
New papers 2014
The Department of Classics is happy to offer five new papers as part of the curriculum from 2014.
Some of our graduates have gone on to do great things with their Classics degrees.
