192 Castle College is owned by the University of Otago and operated by the Campus and Collegiate Life Services Division as part of the Operations Group. 192 Castle College is managed by the Warden and their team.
History of 192 Castle College
Originally a modern hotel, the University bought the 'Living Space' building and repurposed it as a residential college in 2013. The college opened in February 2014 with 126 residents, and initially went under the name of Te Rangi Hiroa College.
In 2022, the building changed its name to 192 Castle College, reflecting its location on one of Dunedin's iconic streets.
192 Castle College joins with Hayward College
In 2025, 192 Castle College was joined to Hayward College and like twins, these two colleges now do everything together. One staff team looks after both spaces and the residents are free to share facilities. Together the colleges are referred to as Hayward 192. In 2027, 192 residents will dine at Hayward College just a short 3 minute walk on the way to Campus.
