Who can apply?
RMIP 2027 is open to applications from all 2026 University of Otago fourth-year medical students.
What to include with application
Applicants are asked to write a statement about themselves and their background (about 600 words), indicating why they think they would be a suitable candidate for RMIP.
Applicants are asked to indicate their order of preference for each of the teaching centres in their application, noting that the application is to RMIP, not to a particular site.

Applications will be accepted via SONIA from 30 June and close 31 August 2026.
Zoom interviews
All applying students will be invited to a Zoom interview.
Interviews will be conducted 7–11 September, and interviewed applicants will have until 13 September to let the RMIP administrator know of any changes they would like to make to their application, including withdrawal or site prioritisation.
Following interviews, further student information will be sought from main campus Student Progress Committees and Associate Deans Academic Progress, to assist with assessing a student's suitability for the programme and particular sites.
Successful applications
Successful applicants will be offered a position on the programme (including site) in late September. Where possible, sites will be prioritised to student situations and preferences discussed at interview. In the event this is not possible, students are expected to commit to an alternative site and the opportunities it will provide. If the programme position is declined based on site allocation it may instead be offered to another student.
Successful students will be advised of the full class list and site allocations in early October 2026.
Note: To participate in RMIP, you will need both a driver's license and a car.
