Hip fractures are a major cause of morbidity for older adults in Aotearoa New Zealand, yet there is limited local evidence on recovery trajectories or how outcomes differ across communities. This project uses one of the most comprehensive linked datasets of hip‑fracture patients in New Zealand, integrating hospital records, surgical interventions, and standardised geriatric assessments to examine functional recovery and long‑term outcomes.

By applying modern statistical methods to de‑identified administrative and clinical data, the research team is identifying the factors that influence rehabilitation, variation across ethnic groups, and opportunities for earlier or more targeted support. The resulting evidence base will inform clinicians, service planners, and sector partners, supporting more equitable and person‑centred rehabilitation pathways for older adults returning to the community.
