The regional psychiatry training programme in Christchurch, New Zealand, organises psychiatric registrar training.

Registrars are doctors working towards becoming specialist psychiatrists, and their training is organised through the Training and Examinations pathway of the RANZCP (the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists).

The Christchurch Psychiatric Registrar Training Programme is known as 'The Walshe Centre' named after our very first graduate in Christchurch – the late Dr James Walshe.

The Centre has a long-standing relationship with the academic Department of Psychological Medicine (Christchurch) from the University of Otago, as well as a strong working relationship with the Canterbury District Health Board (CDHB).

Most of our training posts are based in Christchurch and training is usually completed in the city. Training posts are also available in Nelson.
