2026 Hui-ā-Tau for Early Years Kaiako
Navigating turbulent waters: Weaving the hope and promise of Te Whāriki
Join us for the 2026 Hui-a-Tau for Early Years Kaiako as we celebrate the 30th anniversary of Te Whāriki.
Since its introduction in 1996, Te Whāriki has been our foundation for early childhood education in Aotearoa New Zealand, grounding our practice in its bicultural framework and its Kaupapa Whakahaere (Principles). With a focus on the Whakahaere (Principles), Hui-ā-Tau 2026 will celebrate the voices and experiences of kaiako who have woven curricula over the past three decades, while considering our present and future challenges and opportunities for early childhood education in Aotearoa New Zealand.
We welcome Roberta Skeoch and Dr Emma Parangi who will share a keynote address that explores the importance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi through the eyes of tamariki and its implications for individual kaiako and the ECE community as a whole.
Whether you are just beginning your journey or you have travelled alongside Te Whāriki from its beginnings, we welcome you to this opportunity to come together to reconnect, reflect, and imagine the next chapter of Te Whāriki.
