'Built in Dunedin: a look at three buildings' – Dr David Murray
Dr David Murray will speak on 'Built in Dunedin: a look at three buildings', exploring three contrasting examples, built respectively as a hotel, a private house and a factory. He will examine their architectural and social history, and highlight the research sources he has used.
An archivist at Hocken Collections, David's profound and detailed knowledge of local architecture and architects has made his 'Built in Dunedin' website, launched in 2012, an essential resource for the architectural and social history of a wide range of the city's buildings. David's doctoral thesis was not about architecture but instead a musician, the Italian Raffaello Squarise, who lived and worked in Dunedin in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
