What is a summer studentship?

A summer studentship is the opportunity to do a 10-week research project under the guidance of one of the supervisors at the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology over the summer period. To be eligible you should be an undergraduate student considering postgraduate study and/or a career in research.

Fastier Prestigious Summer Studentship

Applications are invited from undergraduate students for a 10-week summer research project in the subject of Pharmacology. This prestigious summer studentship is funded through the generosity of Emeritus Professor Fred Fastier, who taught pharmacology at Otago between 1949 and 1980.

Applicants must have the intention to further their Pharmacology and Toxicology or Pharmacy studies at the University of Otago next year.

Sandy Stephens Rongoā Māori Summer Stundentship

A scholarship is offered for a 10-week summer research project.  During the studentship you will explore the whakapapa (genealogy), mātauranga (knowledge), and tikanga (practices) relating to one or more taonga (treasured) native plants used in Rongoā Māori and apply ethnopharmacology techniques to investigate their mechanism of action.

This studentship is funded through the generosity of Sandy Stephens, MNZM, an alumni and rural sociologist and health expert.
