Study Entrepreneurship at Otago

    Why study Entrepreneurship?

The ability to critically evaluate and communicate new ideas is a sought-after skill set in every sector of the economy. From start-ups to existing businesses, non-profits, environmental enterprises, and iwi and Pacific communities, entrepreneurial skills and innovative thinking are in high demand.

At Otago, you can study for a Bachelor of Entrepreneurship, where you can major in Entrepreneurship in combination with other majors or minors in Commerce, Arts, Sciences, and Health Sciences. Alternatively, you can take Entrepreneurship as a minor alongside any degree.

    Career opportunities

You'll graduate with the skills to start your own business or to help existing organisations innovate and grow. Opportunities include:

    • Launching your own venture – turn innovative ideas into impactful businesses
    • Joining early-stage startups – helping to accelerate go-to-market strategies and refine business models
    • Contributing to established enterprises –bringing fresh thinking to drive innovation and growth
    • Working in consultancy – advising on entrepreneurship, innovation, and commercialisation strategies
    • Supporting policy development, particularly in areas focused on R&D, innovation, and technology commercialisation

    How you will learn

You’ll complete a combination of theoretical and applied papers focused on entrepreneurship and innovation. Through teamwork and interaction with skilled lecturers and start-up founders, you’ll develop a wide array of professional skills that will enhance your employability, such as communication, leadership, problem-solving, analysis, and decision-making.

You’ll be immersed in Dunedin’s thriving start-up ecosystem that offers supportive networks, business incubators and co-working spaces.
