Professor McBride (Lt Col) is Director of the University of Otago's newly established Research Theme: 'Health of Veterans, Serving Personnel and their Families'.

He commissioned in the Territorial Army as a Troop Commander (RCT) in 1981. Since coming to New Zealand in 1995 he has served as CO of the Otago and Southland Regiment and has deployed as a medical officer to East Timor and Afghanistan.
