Otago Medical School comprises four component schools:
- Otago Medical School (OMS)
- Dunedin School of Medicine (DSM)
- School of Biomedical Sciences (BMS)
- University of Otago, Christchurch (UOC)
- University of Otago, Wellington (UOW)
DSM, UOC, and UOW are all clinical medical schools.
After completing Health Sciences First Year (or gaining entry via an alternative pathway), all second- and third-year medical students are taught on the Dunedin campus by BMS and DSM staff.
After that, a third of medical students are taught in each of DSM, UOC, and UOW for the remaining years.
The following names are no longer used:
- Christchurch School of Medicine
- Wellington School of Medicine
- Faculty of Medicine
