Research

My main core research interest is investigating immune responses in the tumour microenvironment, particularly oral squamous cell carcinoma. This research started in 2007 with subsequent completion of my PhD thesis in 2013. Three grants were obtained to fund this project with me as Principle Investigator one from Otago Medical Research Foundation (OMRF) and two from New Zealand Dental Association Research Foundation (NZDRF). This project is currently being expanded to include metastatic lymph node profiling as well as angiogenic role in oral squamous cell carcinoma metastatic spread. The current research will explore modulation of the immune system by cancer cells in the process of local invasion and lymph node metastasis and the role of angiogenesis in these processes.
