Re-thinking business for a sustainable future

The Research Network for Sustainable Business (RNSB) brings together researchers from across the University of Otago who share an interest in how business, consumption and economic systems can contribute to a more sustainable and equitable future.

Moving towards sustainability requires more than incremental changes to existing business practices. It requires new ways of thinking about the relationship between business, society and the environment, and about how systems of production and consumption can operate within environmental limits while supporting human and community wellbeing.

The Network provides a hub for interdisciplinary research on the transition towards a sustainable economy. Our research focus areas are Sustainable Behavioural Change, Regenerative and Resilient Systems, Sustainable Business Ethics and Practices, Sustainable Workplaces, Social Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Innovation, and Māori and Indigenous Business.

The Research Network for Sustainable Business is an interdisciplinary network involving researchers from across the University of Otago with expertise spanning marketing, management, economics, finance, accounting, tourism and sustainability.

Connecting research and practice

A central purpose of the Research Network for Sustainable Business is to connect academic research with the organisations and communities working to create change.

We seek to develop relationships with businesses, policymakers, local government, social enterprises, not-for-profit organisations and other community stakeholders to identify shared challenges, exchange knowledge and develop collaborative research. Through research collaborations, seminars, workshops and events, the Network provides opportunities for researchers and external partners to learn from one another and explore practical responses to sustainability challenges.
