Overview
Located in the reception area at Unipol Recreation, outdoor rentals offers a range of equipment for adventures and games all year round. Students must present a current valid Otago tertiary ID card at the time of hire. Public hires are available at twice the listed student rate.
We don't take bookings for our equipment (except in special circumstances), so please come down and see us.
By renting any equipment from Unipol Recreation, you are agreeing to the terms and conditions specified in the Acceptance of Responsibility Statement.

Snow Shed
We are currently open by appointment only until 12 July 2026. To make an appointment please email snowshed@otago.ac.nz
From 13 July we will be open for fittings during the following hours:
- Tuesday - Thursday 4.00pm - 7.00pm
- Friday 12.00pm - 7.00pm
Spend less time waiting in lines and more time hitting the slopes by taking the stress out of the gear hiring process and paying a fraction of the cost. Our staff are trained to fit you with the gear that will best suit your ability. You'll be ready to head straight to the slopes without any hassle.
Skis, boots and boards all require fitting by our staff during Snow Shed hours (see below). All other gear can be rented during our regular opening hours. You can reserve gear up to 5 days in advance, just leave it here with us and come back to collect it before your trip.

Personal gear servicing
If you already have your own gear you can drop it into us any time for servicing. Please allow 4 days for the work to be done.

Semester hires
If you're planning to have multiple adventures while you study we offer long term rentals on some of our equipment. These are subject to availability so we recommend organising them in advance. If you would like a semester hire please inquire at reception or contact our Outdoor Rental Coordinator.
Semester hires are only available for current Otago/OP students with valid ID.

Terms and conditions of rentals
Rental cost is on a per-day basis.
Hirers may check out multiple items at one time, but are limited to one per type of equipment.
A one-day rental period is the time of pick up (that day) until closing the next day. Exception: bikes must be returned by close on the same day.
Overdue fees amount to the same price as hiring equipment for that time.
I agree to take full responsibility for the hire and usage of the equipment and will return it in the same state as it was hired by the agreed date. If not, I will pay the required replacement cost.
If damage occurs I will notify Unipol and will expect to be charged any necessary repair or replacement costs.
A form of ID must be supplied and photographed for public hire.
By paying for the rental equipment I am agreeing to the terms and conditions.
