Discover how oral health shapes overall wellbeing and learn the skills to improve lives and communities.

    Why study Oral Health?

Oral health is about more than just teeth. It is a vital part of overall health and wellbeing. At Otago, you’ll gain the knowledge and hands-on experience to care for people of all ages, prevent oral disease, and make a real difference in community health - with a strong focus on cultural understanding and improving equity for Māori, Pacific, rural, and low-socioeconomic communities.

Our Bachelor of Oral Health (BOH) combines science, clinical training, and community engagement. Preventive care is a key focus, and you will learn how to educate patients and support long-term change.

Studying Oral Health at Otago means being part of New Zealand’s only School of Dentistry, recognised internationally for excellence in teaching and research. You will graduate ready to make a real impact on people’s health and quality of life, both here and overseas.

Applications for the Bachelor of Oral Health open 1 July and close 13 August 2026.
