Kiwi hosts

In order to assist international students in settling into life at the University of Otago, University Flats also house Kiwi Hosts, New Zealand students who live in flats alongside international students.

Kiwi Hosts are full time, predominantly undergraduate students who are able to share their local knowledge of Dunedin City, and the University campus and environs with their flatmates. They help international students settle into life at Otago.

A small number of flats are reserved for both commencing undergraduate international students and for international exchange students. These flats will have a Kiwi Hosts living in them alongside their international flatmates.

Recruitment for new (and returning) Kiwi Hosts usually commences in late July. Application packs are available from the Uni Flats office (100 St David St). If you are unable to collect a pack, details can be emailed/mailed to you. All applicants are required to complete an application form and reference checks may be undertaken and if short listed an interview will be arranged.

Applications are processed as they are received and all successful applicants will be formally advised and an offer of accommodation in a University Flat made.

Applications are open to all New Zealand students and it is essential that applicants be of good character and have a genuine desire to live with and assist international students. Kiwi Hosts are also mostly third year students plus or equivalent.

It is important to note that current Kiwi Hosts are eligible to re-apply, however, selection is not necessarily automatic nor guaranteed.
