The Biostatistics and Computational Biology Unit (BCBU) is comprised of a nationally recognised cluster of biostatisticians and computational biology specialists within the University of Otago, Christchurch, and affiliates.

Simulation Centre

The Simulation Centre at the University of Otago, Christchurch is a state-of-the-art facility that is designed to develop, deliver and support simulation-based education covering a broad range of clinical and professional skills for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

The Nicholls Clinical Research Centre

The Nicholls Clinical Research Centre provides cutting-edge facilities for clinical research studies with a focus on cardiovascular disease and related conditions such as diabetes and kidney failure. Before the Centre opened in 2014, necessary tests for clinical research studies such as blood sampling and cardiac imaging (echocardiography) were done in small rooms in the hospital.  The Centre provides a comfortable place for research participants to come. Positioned at the interface between the University of Otago, Christchurch, and the main Christchurch Hospital building, it also provides a more convenient 'hub' for researchers and clinicians to meet and collaborate.

The Cancer Society Tissue Bank

The Cancer Society Tissue Bank (CSTB) underpins cancer research using human samples. The samples are provided through a collection process that is ethically, legally, culturally and scientifically sound. The bank is a collaboration involving the University of Otago, Christchurch, the Canterbury District Health Board and the Canterbury/West Coast division of the Cancer Society New Zealand.

The Canterbury Medical Library

The Canterbury Medical Library is the key provider of library and information services for University of Otago, Christchurch and Canterbury District Health Board.

The University of Otago, Christchurch hosts state-of-the-art laboratories for a wide range of biomedical research.

Mental Health Research

Mental Health Research has an established platform of research projects related to improving treatments and outcomes for those with serious mental health disorders.

New Zealand Brain Research Institute, Christchurch  

NZBRI facilitates access to MRI scanning for researchers. They provide technical support including establishing scanning protocols, help with general imaging troubleshooting, and advice on image processing and image analysis. NZBRI as a centre of excellence in neurological imaging research.
