Learn from inspirational hauora Māori kaiako, how to connect with and work alongside Māori individuals, whānau, and communities.

    Why study Māori Health?

Māori Health focuses on making a difference for Māori health outcomes. Explore how to provide culturally responsive health practice when working with Māori individuals, whānau, communities, organisations and populations.

You'll develop skills in working with Māori communities, understanding historical, social and cultural context, and applying that knowledge across health, social and disability services. You’ll learn how health systems, policy, and social factors influence outcomes for Māori – and how to create meaningful change.

You’ll build a foundation that lets you take your place in health, policy, support work or further study. In short – you’ll study something meaningful, feel part of something bigger, and open doors for your future.

    Career opportunities

As a graduate majoring in Māori Health, you will have the knowledge and skills to address the determinants of health and their impacts, ensure organisations foster equity and positive outcomes for Māori, and be culturally and clinically responsive.

    Pathways you can explore:

    • Health policy adviser or planner focused on Māori outcomes
    • Māori health research assistant or coordinator
    • Disability or social services worker with a Māori health focus
    • Health promotion specialist working in Māori communities
